Just a little studying and you can become an Amateur Radio operator.
By passing the exam and becoming a Amateur Radio Operator you will be licensed to set up your own amateur radio station in your home that can transmit to all 50 states, all the providence's, and many other countries around the world, and even talk to the International Space Station. In addition to your home station you may have mobile and portable rigs. Stay in touch with friends and acquaintances or get acquainted with folks far off in other lands.
Embark on a wondrous journey of the world and it's people via Amateur Radio Service. You can join your local repeater associations and local ham groups. This license entitles you to use the computer for various communications such as, Echolink. Echo link is software for hams to communicate all around the world. You will learn to make very reliable antennas out of discarded materials that work as good as the antennas you can buy.
Start Learning about the wonders , Nature, Space, and our Atmosphere provide in the world of radio. You will learn much about electricity, antennas, science, space, and math, all at your speed and in the most enjoyable way.
Make amateur radio your child's next step after learning to talk. Being on the air is fascinating to a child. Let them explore radio from the basics up. Not only does this give them a great since of radio but also will improve their ability to speak in public and is sure to broaden their vocabulary by a large margin over the years they are involved. Let them be hams.When you sit back and think about it, there are many great possibilities when it comes to involving a youngster into a hobby like amateur radio, like self esteem, intellectual contact, a gap filler between generations, but ya know I really cant think of one good reason not to involve a child into this great world of Amateur radio.
Amateur Radio Operators are great teachers and all of them I know or have heard speak have been helpful and kind, keeping all conversations clean and interesting. Well ok some conversations are down right boring but may still prove to be informative or to help build tolerance for others and their ways and rights.
We encourage parents, both men and women to participate along side their child, which is another great possibility in amateur radio . A hobby that youngsters will certainly enjoy and something to have in common with "the old folks". In situations where a child and parent have grown apart or simply don't have any interests in common. Amateur radio is great because you can participate anytime and for short periods of time, and above all promotes communication. Just think, hamming could be the cure for those boring car rides and will make every long road trip even more enjoyable, memorable, and educational, and no matter where you go, you and your child will be able to meet new friends. If you have trouble getting your child to check in, amateur radio is your answer. It will make it fun to stay in touch and out of harms way. There are many spin off groups like skywarn for your youth to participate.
To see if your child is interested in amateur radio, all you need to do is buy a scanner or you may already have one and tune into the amateur bands. Contact a Ham in your area to see what frequencies to go to. It is also possible to borrow a scanner for a short time. You will find that most Hams are most helpful. It is a good idea to buy a radio as soon as your youth gets started studying and let them listen, as to keep their interest and to motivate them because it is quite technical. Let them see the fun side at all times and they will keep right at it. Just don't let them transmit. Remember it is a licensed hobby and stiff penalties can be given for rule breaking. Also, you might get in touch with a local Ham and your youth will be able to talk under there license, that will help to get their excitement up. There are so many possibilities and with guidance from a amateur radio operator you can surely find a set up to fit your budget. It doesn't have to be expensive, but beware they will want to learn more if exposed to the many activities available. Don't let any child miss out on this great experience.

Amateur radio is a great way to stay in touch with your friends. Why waste cell phone minutes to let your friends know where you are, or to keep a friend or girlfriend that couldn't make the game up to speed with the score. You see the sky is the limit! There are so many ways to use your ham radio. Just all around communications with the folks, or to keep in touch at busy events, and it really gets fun when you make your fist dx contact or contact a satellite. Encourage you teachers to do projects featuring amateur radio. Although amateur radio is rewarding in all these ways, just think about the many ways you can help to spread good will by using your amateur radio station to help others. Face it everyone knows there are times that cell phone signals can not be found, well imagine driving down the road and witnessing an accident and not being able to get ahold of authorities. After attaining your license, there are many programs to get involved with in which you can help keep yourself, your loved one, and your community safe. Please don't miss out on what this hobby has to offer everyone. Go to a local ham club meeting and listen in and participate in some events and I'm sure you will want to learn more. Just try it.
